Since I first heard of this recipe through, I believe it was whilst reading Holm tal-Milied , I always wanted to try this recipe.  To my amazement not a lot of people are aware of this traditional Maltese recipe.  Last week whilst rummaging through an old recipe book I found this xkunvat recipe and decided to try it out.

I found that it was easy and very fun to make, because you can shape the dough stripes in whatever shape you feel like.   It was an instant hit with my family and friends 🙂  Hope you enjoy the recipe as much as I did.

The traditional Maltese pudina is very easy to make.  There seems to be different variations of how to bake this bread pudding, I prefer this recipe with coconut to give it a grainy grainy texture. For the full recipe follow the link

kusksu & broad beans soup kusksu & broad beans soup

This is the broad beans season, and the best recipe with broad beans is the kusksu soup.  This recipe is a traditional Maltese recipe favorite during the lent period especially on Good Friday.

The recipe uses fresh goat cheese ( gbejniet ) but can be omitted if not available.  The soup can also be served by pouring the eggs on a the hot plate before serving.  Enjoy 🙂

Preparing Figolli

Have you completed your figolli yet? This year I experimented and came up with this cute bunny to decorate an egg shaped figolla. I started off by lightly spreading jam on the figolla and rolled out the blue paste to cover the top half of the figolla, and the brown paste to cover the bottom part of the figolla.

I used royal icing, to do the basket weaving ( yes it was time consuming 😉 ) and then i finished off with the cute bunny, flowers and butterfly.

Hope you like it.

I found this a very good recipe that blends the white chocolate and the fruity taste of cranberries into a unique cookie. The original recipe was obtained from sallybakingaddiction.com. I made some modifications to it so it is more compliant to my tastes.
